Purple coneflower (Echinacea angustifolia)

Purple Narrow-Leaf Coneflower (Echinacea Angustifolia), aka Black Samson, is a long lived perennial that produces beautiful, long lasting and large 3 to 4 " white purple flowers with bronze, dome shaped centers an long 2 to 3' stems. Purple coneflower is drought resistant and prefers dry soil although it will tolerate moist. Mass plantings provide spectacular beauty year after year. Plant in a sunny location and well drained soil during early spring or fall (recommended in mild climates). For best results loosen the soil with a rake or hoe, mix the seeds with a cup of sand and broadcast over your planting area. Then lightly rake the seed into the soil or cover the seed with peat moss or similar light mulch. Keep the soil moist until the plants begin to grow. Purple coneflower requires little care and water only as necessary. For additional plants divide clumps in spring or fall after they have flowered for 2 or 3 years. [table “” not found /]
