Chives
Chives are easy-to-grow and make a colorful, useful addition to any garden. The slender grass-like leaves have a delicate onion flavor and are used for flavoring soups, stews, dips, and salads. Plant with flowers, vegetables, or other herbs; use as an edging or in pots-indoors or out.
Sow Chive seeds directly in the garden as soon as ground can be worked in the spring. Firm soil over seeds and keep moist. Can be grown in clumps. Transplants easily.
Water regularly and fertilize every two months. Divide clumps every 2 years.
After Chive plants are 4″ tall, clip outer leaves with scissors right back to the base. Use fresh or frozen, as the flavor doesn’t hold well when dried.
