California Poppy (Eschscholzia californica) is the worlds most popular wild flower as well the state flower of California. Plants grow well in a variety of climatic conditions and soil types. This tender perennial stands 12-18″/30-46 cm. tall, bearing brilliant orange 2-3″/5-8 cm. flowers with satiny petals and finely cut gray-green foliage.
The profusely blooming plants are easy-to-grow and often re-seed themselves. Select a sunny location for the California Poppy and plant in well drained soil during early spring or fall (recommend in mild climates).
For best results, loosen soil with rake or hoe. Mix seeds with a cup of sand or other inert material and broadcast over planting area. Lightly rake seed into soil or cover with peat moss or similar light mulch. Keep soil moist until plants begin to grow.
The California Poppy requires little care. Water only as necessary.
